Hello from Barbara's Entourage!

It's a blessing to have _time_. There's sixty seconds in a minute, sixty minutes in an hour, twenty four hours in a day, seven days in a week, and three hundred sixty five days in a year. You would think we have all the time in the world. Most people sleep eight to ten hours a night, leaving fourteen to sixteen hours of time to do other things. We spend time getting ready to go to work or out to shop, eating three meals a day, playing with the children, talking on the phone, driving back and forth to work, on hobbies, or shopping.

Time is a commodity, something that can be useful, a great benefit, or it can disappear. If we give _time_ to God, I believe He makes time in the day for all the other things that us humans need to get done. But, when we squander HIS time, then, I believe we have a hard time meeting our own need for time.

Luke 21:34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

Simply Abigail

This is a site worth repeating; Simply Abigail is a figment of the imagination of Vickie Paver of Pavers Nest. Although she is fictional in the stories presented, you will still identify with things going on in her life! Go be entertained by Abigail, as well as enjoy a little bit of the life she lives from day to day, in her walk with God.

1. Your thumb is nearest to you. So begin your prayers by praying for those closest to you. They are the easiest to remember. To pray for our loved ones is, as C.S. Lewis once said, a "sweet duty".

2. The next finger is the pointing finger. Pray for those who teach, instruct and heal. This includes teachers, doctors, and ministers. They need support and wisdom in pointing others in the right direction. Keep them in your prayers.

3. The next finger is the tallest finger. It reminds us of our leaders. Pray for the president, leaders in business and industry, and administrators. These people shape our nation and guide public opinion. They need God's guidance.

4. The fourth finger is our ring finger. Surprising to many is the fact that this is our weakest finger; as any piano teacher will testify. It should remind us to pray for those who are weak, in trouble or in pain. They need your prayers day and night. You cannot pray too much for them.

5. And lastly comes our little finger; the smallest finger of all. Which is where we should place ourselves in relation to God and others. As the Bible says, "the least shall be the greatest among you." Your pinkie should remind you to pray for yourself. By the time you have prayed for the other four groups, your own needs will be put into proper perspective and you will be able to pray for yourself more effectively.

From The Mouths of Babes:

A 4-year-old boy who was asked to return thanks before Christmas dinner. The family members bowed their heads in expectation. He began his prayer, thanking God for all his friends, naming them one by one. Then he thanked God for Mommy, Daddy, brother, sister, Grandma, Grandpa, and all his aunts and uncles. Then he began to thank God for the food. He gave thanks for the turkey, the dressing, the fruit salad, the cranberry sauce, the pies, the cakes, even the Cool Whip. Then he paused, and everyone waited--and waited. After a long silence, the young fellow looked up at his mother and asked, "If I thank God for the broccoli, won't he know that I'm lying?"

For Christmas, I made my daughter and daughter-in-law a fish aquarium - one of those where you put a little fish in a vase, with water and a flower. They are really popular and the kids all wanted one. My daughter's fish had lived until this week, without any problem. Her daughter wanted to help, so she cleaned the water Monday, without Mom knowing, and put cold water in the vase. Needless to say, it killed the fish. Last night, they discovered him dead, and almost white. So, the kids wanted to have a burial. They went outside, dug a hole, and proceeded to have a funeral.

Tonight, my daughter called and said, "Well, the little fish has 'come alive'. The little boys checked the grave, he was missing, and they say he has come alive, gone to heaven, and is looking down on us right now".

The Shyness of God

Lead Us Not Into Temptation, But Deliver Us From Evil

Now, as I leave Thine altar, I go to encounter temptation.

O Saviour! help me, keep me, and warn me of my danger!

Let me shun all occasions of evil, and if by weakness or allurements I am led into paths of sin, if I fall, oh! rescue me speedily, that I may fall upon my knees, confessing my sin, and imploring pardon.

Sin! this is the evil from which I beseech Thee to deliver me; other troubles that may happen, I accept; they are sent to try me and to purify, and come from Thee; but sin, I have no pleasure in it! Oh! when in the hour of temptation I fall away, Lord, hearken to the cry that I now raise to Thee in all sincerity; I will it not! it is not wilful! I go from Thy Presence, but, JESUS, Thou art with me! In work, in prayer, in suffering, let all be done in Thee!
