Hello from Barbara's Entourage!

Happy St. Patrick's Day Devotional from Barbara's home to yours! ENJOY!

Ageless! What a thought! Should fill you with such exuberance that your joy couldn't be contained! But, then again, on the other side of the coin, do you want to live in this world, ageless? Do you want to undergo the day-to-day hardships that are coming on this world, without end?

Then, there's the saint part; what is a saint? Many of us have different definitions for a saint. When I was a child, it was always looked upon someone who had lived a life for Christ, died, and gone to heaven. I wouldn't have imagined placing that title on anyone alive; heaven forbid! I've long since found out that a saint is a believer in Christ, one who is separated from the world and consecrated to Him. It is one who is holy by profession and by covenant. And, 'acting' saintly is not the same as being a saint. Anyone can be a good, moral person, but not a saint.

Through out times, there have been saints, those that came to God through His wooing of their spirit man. Until they came to Christ, they were sinners, fed their bodies and starved their souls. But, when they came to Christ, they became a new creature in Him - a saint!

St. Patrick, born in Britian, and captured by pirates when he was sixteen, was later sold as a slave in Ireland. During that time, he studied religion, and became driven by the idea of converting the Irish to Christianity. He later became known as the Apostle to the Irish.

The dictionary says that a patron saint is 'A saint who is regarded as the intercessor and advocate in heaven of a nation, place, craft, activity, class, or person.' I have no first hand knowledge of what goes on in heaven, or who is in heaven; therefore, I have no way of knowing if what's said of St. Patrick is true or not. But, each of us, as a Christian, is a saint in God's eyes, whether we feel like one or not.

Back to ageless - one day, each of us will be in eternity. As a Christian, we will then have become the ageless saint - one who lives forever with Christ. We will 'never grow old' - we will be immortal, as well as ageless! Praise the Lord!

Romans 2:7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

Heavenly Father, we may never feel like a saint in this life, but we know we were made in your likeness, in your image. Help us to throw off the old man ways, adhere to your ways, and become more like the saint we are supposed to be in you. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.

A man who smelled like a distillery flopped on a subway seat next to a priest. The man's tie was stained, his face was plastered with red lipstick, and a half-empty bottle of gin was sticking out of his torn coat pocket. He opened his newspaper and began reading.

After a few minutes the disheveled guy turned to the priest and asked, "Say, Father, what causes arthritis?"

"Mister, it's caused by loose living, being with cheap, wicked women, too much alcohol, and a contempt for your fellow man."

"Wow," the drunk muttered, returning to his paper.

The priest, thinking about what he had said, nudged the man and apologized. "I'm very sorry, I didn't mean to come on so strong. How long have you had arthritis?"

"I don't have it, Father. I was just reading here that the Pope does."

A young boy had just gotten his driving permit. He asked his father, who was a minister, if they could discuss the use of the car. His father took him to his study and said to him, "I'll make a deal with you. You bring your grades up, study your Bible a little and get your hair cut and we'll talk about it."

After about a month the boy came back and again asked his father if they could discuss use of the car. They again went to the father's study where his father said, "Son, I've been real proud of you. You have brought your grades up, you've studied your bible diligently, but you didn't get your hair cut!"

The young man waited and minute and replied, "You know Dad, I've been thinking about that. You know, Samson had long hair, Moses had long hair, why even Jesus had long hair...."

To which his father replied...."Yes, and they WALKED everywhere they went!"

With a mortar and a pestle
God grinds out the everydays.

There are hours to consider
And moments to influence ways.

Enlivened purpose rears its head
To assist work for the new phase;

Effort soon creates amalgam
For God wants to have no delays.

Katherine Hale Hanlin - Author
Poem from 'Promise Of The Bud'

"Learn of me, for I am meek and lowly of Heart."

This is a simple rule of life for me, requiring no more than I am able; but I feel it unites me to God, make me more devout, more faithful to duty, more ready for death. Since I have made it my rule, it has been to me a source of consolation, enlightenment, and strength; and yet God alone knows how full of pain my life has been!

Dear friends, who, like myself, long to become holy, I commend this sentence to you in all its simplicity; listen, for it comes from the loving Heart of Jesus, it fell from His gentle lips: -- "Learn of Me, for I am meek and lowly of heart."

By Charlotte M. Yonge - 1880
