Hello from Barbara's Entourage!

It has been a beautiful day today. We started with soccer games at 9AM, and ended around 1PM. We had two wins, and one of them was won for the Championship! We were so proud of the children and their accomplishments this year. But, where there is something to be happy for, there usually arises a situation that is unpleasant or upsetting - always something to mar the day. Today was no better.

On the way to our granddaughter's soccer game - the championship one - we saw a rescue unit and an ambulance pull out from another highway into the lane in front of us, going in our direction. As we proceeded up the road, I noticed that the wreck was right at the light where we were supposed to turn. You can only imagine the feeling that went through all of our bodies! To know that your granddaughter has gone ahead in another car with another Mom is frightening, to say the least. My daughter and her son jumped out of their truck, and my husband jumped out of our car, and all three began to run, because ahead, there looked to be a car, belonging to one of the Moms ,in ruins! But, thank God, it wasn't, and none of our players or families were involved. But, there were some badly hurt people in those cars that need our prayers tonight. We don't know if there were any fatalities, but to know there was so much damage to those vehicles, makes you wonder.

Summer is on us, most schools are out or about to be, and the highways will quickly fill up with vacationers. Let's each of us try to be safe, when we are on the road, be courteous to others, and do say a prayer, if you come upon a scene like we did today. My family went to see about the situation, while I prayed! Hopefully, those prayers were answered and nobody died.

2 Chronicles 6:19 Have respect therefore to the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken unto the cry and the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee:

Joy, Humor, and Faith on the net!

Three sons left home, went out on their own and prospered. Getting back together, they discussed the gifts they were able to givetheir elderly mother.

The first said, "I built a big house for our mother."

The second said, "I sent her a Mercedes with a driver."

The third smiled and said, "I've got you both beat. You remember how mom enjoyed reading the Bible? And you know she can't see very well. So I sent her a remarkable parrot that recites the entire Bible. It took elders in the church 12 years to teach him. He's one of a kind. Mama just has to name the chapter and verse, and the parrot recites it."

Soon thereafter, mom sent out her letters of thanks: "Milton," she wrote one son, "The house you built is so huge. I live in only one room, but I have to clean the whole house."
"Gerald," she wrote to another, "I am too old to travel. I stay most of the time at home, so I rarely use the Mercedes. And the driver is so rude!"
"Dearest Donald," she wrote to her third son, "You have the good sense to know what your mother likes. The chicken was delicious."

Two elderly ladies had been friends for many decades. Over the years they had shared all kinds of activities and adventures. Lately, their activities had been limited to meeting a few times a week to play cards.

One day they were playing cards when one looked at the other and said, "Now don't get mad at me. I know we've been friends for a long time, but I just can't think of your name. I've thought and thought, but I can't remember it. Please tell me what your name is."

Her friend glared at her. For several minutes she just stared and glared at her. Finally she said, "How soon do you need to know?"

According to the theory of aerodynamics and as may be readily demonstrated through wind tunnel experiments, the bumblebee is unable to fly. This is because the weight, size and shape of his body in relation to the total wingspread makes flying impossible.

A word or two from...

Maranatha Christian Journal

(MCNS) -- Every morning at 8 a.m., a group of employees gathers at the Main Justice building in Washington .D.C. for prayer and bible study with Attorney General John Ashcroft. But a front-page Washington Post story reports that Ashcroft's bible study sessions have offended some Justice Department employees.

Acts of the Interior Life

1. See God, that is to say, be always realizing His Presence, feeling Him near, as the friend from Whome we would never be separated, in work, in prayer, in recreation, in repose. God is not importunate, He never wearies, he is so gracious and merciful, His Hand directs everything, and He will not "suffer us to be tempted above that we are able."

2. Listen to God: be attentive to His counsels, His warnings; we hear His Voce in those Gospel words that recur to our minds, in the good thoughts that suddenly dawn on us, the devout words that meet us in some book, on a sheet of paper, or falling from the lips of a preacher, a friend, or even a stranger.

3. Speak to God: hold converse with Him, more with the heart than the lips, in the early morning's meditation, ejaculatory prayer, vocal prayer, and above all in Holy Communion.

4. Love God: be devoted to Him, and Him alone; have no affection apart from Him; restrain the love that would estrange us from Him; lend ourselves to all, out of love to Him, but give ourselves to Him alone.

5. Think of God: reject whatever excludes the thought of Him. Of course, we must fulfill our daily duties, accomplishing them with all the perfection of which we are capable; but they must be done as beneath th Eye of God, with the thought that God has commanded them, and that to do them carefully is pleasing in His sight.
