Hello from Barbara's Entourage!

I've come through toils, trials, and tests (you might say I've studied TTT 101) these past couple of weeks, and many more to go! I've come out perhaps worse for the wear, but still intact. I'm speaking of keeping four energetic grandchildren who will keep you busy, toiling, testing, and putting you through 'time trials'. Ever had the ease of waking up when you want replaced by 'Nanny, I want a waffle’, long before your wake-up time? Your eyes can't focus, and your ears are trying not to hear. But, they are rentless in their efforts to get you up and ready for another day. Did we ever have that kind of energy?

Well, the enemy is just like those energetic children, in that he will constantly push, prod, and prey on you. He won't give up with ease; in fact, he never gives up! He keeps trying to bring you under his subjection. He will keep on you like the hummingbirds after nectar. It's not that you are exactly what he wants - if he even knows what he wants - other than that it's his objective to steal your freedom, your conscience, and your Christianity! He will divide and conquer, and then leave you to your own wits!

So, be cautious, when you hear the little voice in your ear, or feel the enemy sitting on your shoulder! Take a break, get in the Word, and turn on Christian music, or a Christian radio station or TV program. Don't let him fill you mind full of his 'wares' - they will pollute your mind, and reap you havoc!

Cold Slaw Recipe

1 head green cabbage
1/4 head red cabbage (for color)
1 red onion, diced
1 carrot, finely grated
8 ounces sour cream
2 small packages sugar
7 heaping Tablespoons real mayonnaise
cider vinegar
salt and pepper to taste

Grate cabbage. Add red onion and carrot; toss in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, mix together sour cream, sugar, mayonnaise, and 22 small shakes of cider vinegar. Salt and pepper to taste. Taste, adjust seasoning, taste...taste...taste. Add to cabbage, toss well, refrigerate overnight or for several hours, and make sure its well and tightly covered. It tastes better when it's cold.

This recipe on 1st Traveler's Choice Internet Cookbook.

Goes great with a pot roast!

A generation of Christians reared among push buttons and automatic machines is impatient of slower and less direct methods of reaching their goals. We have been trying to apply machine-age methods to our relations with God. We read our chapter, have our short devotions, and rush away, hoping to make up for our deep inward bankruptcy by attending another gospel meeting or listening to another thrilling story told by a religious adventurer lately returned from afar. The tragic results of this spirit are all about us. Shallow lives, hollow religious philosophies, the preponderance of the element of fun in gospel meetings, the glorification of men, trust in religious externalities, quasi-religious fellowships, salesmanship methods, the mistaking of dynamic personality for the power of the Spirit; these and such as these are the symptoms of an evil disease, a deep and serious malady of the soul.

Joy, Humor, and Faith on the net!

I was regretting the past and fearing the future.

Suddenly, I heard God speaking. "My name is I AM."

He paused. I waited.

He continued: "When you live in the past with its mistakes and regrets, it is hard for you because I am not there. My name is not 'I WAS'.

"When you live in the future with its' unknowns and fears, it is hard for you because I am not there. My name is not 'I WILL BE'.

But when you live in this moment, it is not hard, because I am here. My name is 'I AM'."

Author - Helen Mallicoat

"What is the name of this tool?" asked one of the purchasers, pointing to it.

That is Discouragement", replied the devil.

"Why have you priced it so high?"

"Because it is more useful to me than the others. I can pry open and get inside a man's heart with that when I cannot get near him with my other tools. Once I get inside, I can make him do what I choose. It is badly worn because I use it on almost everyone, since very few people know that it belongs to me."

My friend, don't let Satan discourage you in anyway. You are God's child and have the victory already won. All you have to do is keep your faith on the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ. The devil will not have a chance to discourage you, even with his best tools.

It's not enough to splash a little prayer on in the morning or to run through a sprinkler of God's mercy now and then. It's not enough to double our spirits in an hour of worship on Sunday or to dash into a drizzle of teaching every month or so. Our souls need to soak in God's presence. It's no luxury, this time we spend in the healing waters of God's grace. It's neither excess nor indulgence to immerse ourselves in communion with our creator. It's a spiritual necessity if we want to become the people God has created us to be.

A word or two from...

Maranatha Christian Journal

(CNSNews) -- While the nation watched Vermont Sen. Jim Jeffords bolt from the Republican Party last week and shuffle Washington's power structure in the process, the legislature in his home state was quietly making a little history of its own.

Continued from last week:

5. Great recollectedness and self-mortification; avoiding, as much as we can in keeping with our social position, all dissipation, bustle, disturbance, never allowing voluntarily, useless desires, looks, words, or pleasures, but placing them under the rule of reason decorum, edification, and love; taking care that our prayers be said slowly and carefully, articulating each word, and trying to feel the truth of what we are saying.

6. Great care and exactitude in all the ordinary actions of life, above all in the exercises of religion; leaving nothing to chance or hazard; beholding in everything God's overruling Will, and saying to one's self sometimes, as the hour for such and such duty arrives, "I must hasten, God is call me."

7. Much intercourse with God; speaking to Him with simplicity, loving Him dearly, always consulting Him, rendering to Him an account of every action, thanking Him constantly, and above all, drawing near to Him with joy in the Holy Eucharist. One great help towards such sweet communion with God, will be found in a steady perseverance in the early morning's meditation.

8. Much love for our neighbor, because he is the much-loved child of God, praying for Him, comforting, teaching, strengthening, and helping him in all difficulties.

By Charlotte M. Yonge - 1880
