Hello from Barbara's Entourage!

Today's devotional came to me as my husband put a Christian album, by Ricky Van Shelton, into his computer's CD player. 'It's Supper Time' began to play, and it reminded me just how close God's return must be.

Folks, we are in rehearsal; we better be ready, when He calls. We, like the 10 virgins, won't have time to make last-minute preparations, or ask Him to wait awhile. Either we are ready, or we will be left behind. He is calling each of us today to get ready, to be watching and waiting for His return. Don't be slack; dust off the 'traveling clothes', put on the 'armor' and spread the Good News!! It's Almost Supper time!

An ad for one Church has a picture of two hands holding stone tablets on which the Ten commandments are inscribed and a headline that reads, "For fast, fast, fast relief, take two tablets."

Holding The Nails

A Father's Day Tale by Shelley McKinney, illustrating the need for Fathers to bond with their children, as shown by Shelley through her reading of Laura Ingalls Wilder's book, On The Banks of Plum Creek, to her daughters, with her husband 'in attendance'. A great tale you will enjoy!! I promise you will not be disappointed!

The first and almost the only Book deserving of universal attention is the Bible. In what light soever we regard the Bible, whether with reference to revelation, to history, or to morality, it is an invaluable and inexhaustible mine of knowledge and virtue.

The Gravestone Message

The following caption was found written on a gravestone...
"As I am now, you soon shall be,
So be content to follow me."
Then someone taped the following note on that gravestone...
"To follow you I'm not content,
until I know which way you went!"

Christian Humor

Did Jesus use a modem,
At the Sermon on the Mount?
Did He ever try a broadcast fax,
To send His message out?

Did the disciples carry beepers,
As they went about their route?
Did Jesus use a modem,
At the sermon on the Mount?

Did Paul use a Laptop
With lots of RAM and ROM?
Were his letters posted on a BBS,
At Paul.Rom.Com?

Did the man from Macedonia,
Send an E-Mail saying "Come?"
Did Paul use a laptop
With lots of RAM and ROM?

Did Moses use a joystick
At the parting of the Sea?
And a Satellite Guidance Tracking System
To show him where to be?

Did he write the law on tablets,
Or are they really on CD?
Did Moses use a joystick,
At the parting of the Sea?

Did Jesus really die for us,
One day upon a tree?
Or was it just a Hologram,
Or Technical Wizardry?

Can you download the Live Action Video Clip,
To play on your PC?
Did Jesus really die for us,
One day upon a tree?

Have the wonders of this modern age,
Made you question what is true?
How a single man, in a simple time,
Could offer life anew?

How a sinless life, a cruel death,
Then a glorious life again
Could offer more to a desperate world,
Than all the inventions of man?

If in your life, the voice of God
Is sometimes hard to hear,
With other voices calling,
His doesn't touch your ear,

Then set aside your laptop and modem,
And all your fancy gear.
And open your Bible, open your heart,
And let your Father draw near.

A word or two from...

Christianity Today

A Christianity Today Editorial | posted 5/22/01
If hard cases make bad law, then one especially wrongheaded piece of legislation in Illinois should be known as the Benjamin Smith Prevention Act. Smith was a young white supremacist who went on a rampage north of Chicago in July 1999, killing two people (including the beloved college basketball coach Ricky Birdsong) and wounding nine before he committed suicide.

Hindrances to the Interior Life

1. Natural activity, always urging us on, and making us too precipitate in all our actions.
It shows itself: --
In our projects, which it multiplies, heaps up, reforms, and upsets. It allows of no rest, until what it has undertaken is accomplished.

In our actions. Activity is absolutely necessary to us. We load ourselves with a thousand things beyond our duty, sometimes even contrary to it. Everything is done with impetuosity and haste, anxiety and impatience to see the end.

In our conversation. Activity makes us speak without thinking, interrupting rudely, reproving hastily, judging without appreciation. We speak loudly, disputing, murmuring, and losing our temper.

In prayer. We burden ourselves with numberless prayers, repeated carelessly, without attention, and with impatience to get to the end of them; it interferes with our meditations, wearies, torments, fatigues the brain, drying up the soul, and hindering the work of the Holy Spirit.

To be cont'd next week.
