Hello from Barbara's Entourage
This past week, I've had such encouraging notes from wonderful people receiving this newsletter. Some of you have been encouraged to go on. Others can identify with how hard it is to get out a newsletter on time, with all the things that come up in our lives. And, then, another sweet lady wrote me immediately and told me that something in the newsletter was an answer to pray! God is diversified, folks! He knows, even when we don't, what we need and when we need it. It may seem to come at the wrong time for us, but, listen! God is never early, and He is never late - He is always ON TIME!
So, when you are impressed to write in a guestbook or send a note about something you've received in your email, do so immediately. You never know the impression you will make with that someone, or the blessings it will bring to both you and the receiver. God has a plan for each of our lives, and part of it includes being an encourager.

A Pumpkin
A lady had recently been baptized. One of her co-workers asked her what it
was like to be a Christian. She was caught off guard and didn't know how to
answer, but when she looked up she saw a jack-o'-lantern on the desk and
answered: "It's like being a pumpkin."
The worker asked her to explain that one. "Well, God picks you from the
patch and brings you in and washes off all the dirt on the outside that you
got from being around all the other pumpkins. Then he cuts off the top and
takes all the yucky stuff out from inside. He removes all those seeds of
doubt, hate, greed, etc., Then he carves you a new smiling face and puts his
light inside of you to shine for all to see. It is our choice to either stay
outside and rot on the vine or come inside and be something new and bright."

SNIPPET FROM THE MANTLE A word or two from...
|
Christianity Today
For evangelicals there are generally two equal and opposite errors made regarding God's Big Ten: We either emphasize them with fundamentalist zeal to the exclusion of grace, or we use Jesus' New Covenant as an escape clause for not having to deal with them at all. Neither approach is a good idea.

"GOLD DUST" ON THE MANTLE
|
JESUS
Hast thou no favors to ask of Me?
Give Me, if thou wilt, a list of all thy desires, all the wants of thy soul. Tell Me, simply, of all thy pride, sensuality, self-love, sloth; and ask for My help in thy struggles to overcome them.
Poor child! be not abashed; many that had the same faults to contend against are now saints in heaven.
They cried to Me for help, and by degrees they conquered.
Do not hesitate to ask for temporal blessings,--health,intellect,success. I can bestow them, and never fail to do so, where they tend to make the soul more holy. What wouldst thou this day, My child? . . . If thou didst but know how I long to bless thee! . . .
