TOP OF THE MANTLE
|
This has been a beautiful week in Alabama, with fall temperatures and late summer temperatures. There's been something for everyone - from cold to warm. I prefer the in between, since I'm normally a cold-natured person. You see an array of short sleeves to light-weight coats, shorts to long pants. You can certainly tell that FALL is coming in!
I'm happy to report that I'm mending quite rapidly. The Lord has been good to me, in that I have been off the walker for over a week, thanks to the preceptive doctor I have. I'm walking 1 to 1 1/2 miles per day, back to going to soccer games for my grandchildren. Even Saturday, I attended a tournament of two games and walked up the street to eat and back to the field. I've been told that is quite an accomplishment for someone only 2 1/2 weeks after surgery. Thank GOD that I'm unusual - only through Him would I be able to accomplish this feat.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
Life is very mysterious. Indeed it would be inexplicable unless we believed that God was preparing us for scenes and ministries that lie beyond the veil of sense in the eternal world, where highly-tempered spirits will be required for special service.

'THIS AND THAT' ...
Joy, Humor, and Faith on the net!

D. L. Moody used to say there are two ways to go to heaven:
"First Class" and "Coach".
Coach is Psalm 56:3,
"Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You."
But First Class is Isaiah 12:3,
"Behold God is my salvation. I will trust and not be afraid."

From the OmniRead Treasuries -- Blindness
In India, an illiterate village couple were invited to the wedding
of a relative who lived a great distance away in a large city. This
required them to walk a long way to the nearest railway terminus and
travel on a train . . . something they had never done before. When
the couple got to the station, everything was new to them; even the
bananas they bought from a platform vendor were a kind they had never
seen previously.
When the train started, they began to peel their bananas and the
husband was just starting to eat his when the train plunged into a
dark tunnel and out again. The astonished villager turned to his wife
and asked, "Have you eaten any of your banana?" "Not yet," she
replied. "Well, don't!" he said emphatically. "I just bit on mine and
went blind!"

If not for an African-American former Catholic nun from Arkansas, ex-president Clinton wouldn't have been punished at all for repeatedly perjuring himself before independent counsel Ken Starr's Monica Lewinsky grand jury, late heroine-author Barbara Olson reveals in her new book, "The Final Days."

PRAYER
Oh, if you only knew what it is to pray! oh, if God would only give you the grace to love prayer! What peace to your soul, what love in your heart!
What joy would shine shine in your countenance, even though the tears streamed from your eyes!
Prayer, as the first cry escapes the lips, indicates to God that some one would speak to Him, and God, so good and gracious, is ever ready to listen (with all reverence we say it), with the prompt attention of a faithful servant. He manifest Himself to the soul with ineffable love, and says to it, "Behold Me, thou has called Me, what dost thou desire of Me?"
