Three shy of seven hundred - no matter how you try, you can't make it seven hundred! Numbers do count. It takes exactly 697 plus 3 to make 700 - no matter what kind of math you use. And, you wonder what I'm talking about, I suppose. Well, today, there exactly 697 subscribers to the Mantle, and, no matter how hard I try, it's been impossible to make it to 700 and stay there. People subscribe and other people un-subscribe, or they change email addresses and don't change the listing in the Mantle mailing list.

Web ministers battle numbers: visitors to our sites, and subscriptions to our mailing lists. The numbers aren't 'where it's at', we've been told. But, there is still the element of the human brain that wants those numbers to climb to 'new heights'. When they soar, we are elated. When they decline, our ego suffers! Might as well tell it like it is.

We often forget that God gave us the knowledge to build the web sites, helped us remember those things we need to be speaking to others for our devotionals, and is the primary ONE that brings people to our sites. Armed with this piece of knowledge, we should rejoice that people are surfing our sites, no matter the count - knowing that those God wants here WILL be here, regardless of the number that shows on the counter. Our confidence should be built to an all-time high, with GOD as our partner!

Matthew 19:26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

"God is in every tomorrow,
Therefore I live for today,
Certain of finding the sunrise,
Guidance and strength for the way;
Power for each moment of weakness,
Hope for each moment of pain,
Comfort for every sorrow,
Sunshine and joy after rain."

Joy, Humor, and Faith on the net!

Early one evening a gentleman scuttled out to his garage and pulled the lawn furniture out onto the driveway. Shortly after followed the lawnmower, a few gardening tools and a bicycle. A curious neighbor wandered over and asked if he was going to have a garage sale.

"No," replied the gentleman, "my son just bought his first car and right now he's getting ready for a big date."

"So what's with all the stuff?" asked the neighbor.

"Well, after years of moving tricycles, toys and sports equipment out of the way every time I came home from work I wanted to make sure the driveway was ready for him."

"Seventeen Words!
A Reprint from WORD FOR TODAY - Written by Bob Gass

" ...think on these things. " Philippians 4 : 8

At a retirement dinner for a successful executive, there was a lot of good-hearted teasing of the guest of honour before he got up to speak. He told a few jokes of his own, before he started to reminisce about his successes and failures, and the reasons behind them.'Let me tell you why I've enjoyed such success' he said. 'Years ago I had a great boss and mentor. One day he gave me his business card.

On the back, he'd written seventeen words. He told me that whenever he had a tough decision to make, or was in a predicament, he'd read each of these words. Then he'd close his eyes, pray, and be quiet. Each time he did, something amazing would happen: one of the words would jump out at him and steer him in the right direction. He told me that for forty years these seventeen words never failed him. And I'm here tonight to tell you that in the last forty years, they've never failed me either.'Then he passed out his business cards, and here's what was written on the back of each one: (Read each one slowly and thoughtfully).

The seventeen words that will never fail you are: prepare...listen...smile...love...choose...focus...believe...relax...act ...forgive...pray...trust...change.. .persist...accept...risk...wait!

And now the power of these seventeen words has been passed on to you!

A word or two from ......

Maranatha Christian Journal

( CNSNews) -- President Bush and senior U.S. congressmen have taken a personal interest in the case of a Hong Kong businessman who faces trial for smuggling Bibles into China, and that has helped allay concerns of human rights activists, who feared that Washington might overlook Chinese abuses because of Beijing's cooperation in the war against terrorism.

Be Serious

A STATESMAN retiring from public life occupied himself in his latter days with serious thoughts.

The friends who came to visit him, reproached him with being melancholy. "No," he replied; "I am only serious. Al around me is serious, and I feel the need that heart and mind should be in unison with my surroundings.

"For," he added, with such solemnity as to impress all present, "God is serious as He watches us. JESUS is serious when He intercedes for us. The HOLY SPIRIT is serious when He guides us. Satan is serious when he tempts us. The wicked in hell are serious now, because they neglected to be so when on earth; all is ser8iuos in that world whither we are wending."

Oh, my friends! believe me, it is all true; let us at least at times be serious in our thoughts and in our actions.
