Time is slipping away! It's hard to believe this is the last Saturday in January 2002. If you are an adult, the days seem to slip away quickly. A child doesn't seem to notice time slipping by. In fact, most children (I used to be one!) think that time is slow, that their birthday or Christmas will never get here. They want to be able to drive, to finish high school, get a job, and marry, as quickly as possible. They don't realize they are wishing their lives away. The older we become, the faster time seems to fly - days seem to run into one another, and, sometimes, every day feels like Sunday!

What we do with our time makes the difference in our lives. If we keep ourselves busy and do the things that are pleasing to God, we have been responsible. If we are like a drifter, never knowing what to do or what we should be doing, then, we have lost our credibility for being trustworthy.

Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Delays are not refusals; many a prayer is registered, and underneath it the words; "my time is not yet come." God has a set time as well as a set purpose,and He who orders the bounds of our habitation orders also the time of our deliverance.

Joy, Humor, and Faith on the net!

There was a group of scientists and they were all sitting around discussing which one of them was going to go to God and tell Him that they didn't need him anymore. One of the scientists volunteered and went to go tell God he was no longer needed.

The scientist says to God - "God, you know, a bunch of us have been thinking and I've come to tell you that we really don't need you anymore. I mean, we've been coming up with great theories and ideas, we've cloned sheep, and we're on the verge of cloning humans. So as you can see, we really don't need you."

God nods understandingly and says. "I see. Well, no hard feelings. But before you go let's have a contest. What do you think?" The scientist says, "Sure. What kind of contest?" God "A man-making contest." The scientist "Sure! No problem". The scientist bends down and picks up a handful of dirt and says, "Okay, I'm ready!" God replies, "No, no, no... You go get your own dirt."

Chosen Vessel

The Master was searching for a vessel to use;
On the shelf there were many - which one would He choose?
Take me, cried the gold one, I'm shiny and bright,
I'm of great value and I do things just right.
My beauty and luster will outshine the rest
And for someone like You, Master, gold would be the best!
The Master passed on with no word at all;
He looked at a silver urn, narrow and tall;
I'll serve You, dear Master, I'll pour out Your wine
And I'll be at Your table whenever You dine,
My lines are so graceful, my carvings so true,
And my silver will always compliment You.
Unheeding the Master passed on to the brass,
It was widemouthed and shallow, and polished like glass.
Here! Here! cried the vessel, I know I will do,
Place me on Your table for all men to view.
Look at me, called the goblet of crystal so clear,
My transparency shows my contents so dear,
Though fragile am I, I will serve You with pride,
And I'm sure I'll be happy in Your house to abide.
The Master came next to a vessel of wood,
Polished and carved, it solidly stood.
You may use me, dear Master, the wooden bowl said,
But I'd rather You used me for fruit, not for bread!
Then the Master looked down and saw a vessel of clay.
Empty and broken it helplessly lay.
No hope had the vessel that the Master might choose,
To cleanse and make whole, to fill and to use.
Ah! This is the vessel I've been hoping to find,
I will mend and use it and make it all Mine.
I need not the vessel with pride of its self;
Nor the one who is narrow to sit on the shelf;
Nor the one who is big-mouthed and shallow and loud;
Nor one who displays his contents so proud;
Not the one who thinks he can do all things just right;
But this plain earthy vessel filled with My power and might.
Then gently He lifted the vessel of clay.
Mended and cleansed it and filled it that day.
Spoke to it kindly. There's work you must do,
Just pour out to others as I pour into you.

A word or two from ......

Charisma News Service

A federal judge ruled yesterday that a Virginia college's tradition of mealtime prayers is a "state-sponsored religious exercise." Norman K. Moon said the saying of grace before dinner at Virginia Military Institute (VMI) is unconstitutional, noting that "government has become impermissibly entangled with religion," the Associated Press (AP) reported. A VMI spokeswoman said the prayers would be discontinued immediately.

My friend, do you know why the work you accomplish fails either to give pleasure to yourself or others?

It is because it is not cheerfully done, and therefore appears discolored.

A joyous heart amid our work imparts to duty a brilliancy that charms the eyes of others, while it prevents those feeling wounded who cannot perform it equally well.

Joy, with us, is like a lever, by which we lift the weighs that without its help would crush us.

A workman once said "If I were to leave off singing, I should be quite unequal to my business."

Then sing always; let your heart sing as in its earliest years.

The refrain of the heart, which perhaps never passes the lips, but which echoes in heaven,is this sentence-- "I love and I am beloved."

By Charlotte M. Yonge - 1880
