I want to apologize to all the subscribers to the Mantle for a faulty emailing last week. I had computer problems, and, somehow, there were two copies of the newsletter in each email.

Even though we know, as Christians, that we aren't guaranteed tomorrow, I believe we seldom think of our life that way. But, this past week made me realize that we certainly do not know what tomorrow holds. Tragic accidents happen that alter our lives, even at the moment we are making plans for a future that seems infallible.

My husband's niece lies in a coma in NICU, with possible brain injuries, arising from being hit broadside by a drunken driver. This was an accident that shouldn't have happened, but it did. Just 'around the corner', there may be an unseen accident 'waiting' for an unsuspecting person'. I often wonder, when drivers pass us on the highway at neck-breaking speed, and weave in and out of traffic, if we will run up on those same people in a tragic accident, or in a ditch.

As a Christian, I know she has HOPE, not only in this world, but in the one to come. But, not all of those that are caught in this situation are prepared for what could go wrong. Not all are ready to meet the Lord. Let's remember that the next breath may be our last, and live our lives as God would have, waiting and watching for His soon return.

I Corinthians 15:19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

Make you speak My words with power,
Make you channels of My mercy,
Make you helpful every hour.

Joy, Humor, and Faith on the net!

Vachel Lindsay, the poet, told of his experience one night when tired and hungry. Stopping at a farmhouse, he asked to stay overnight. He had no money, but offered to pay for his lodging by reciting original poetry. The housewife, not interested in poetry, replied, "We can't have you, but those people there may," and she pointed to a small house across the field. Going over to the house the man welcomed him, and said, "You may stay if you are willing to put up with what we have." There were only two small rooms, the poet observed. Not a rug on the floor, no window shades, not one piece of furnishing worth two dollars. There was a bed, a rickety table, an old stove and a few broken chairs. Later Lindsay said to a friend: "That man had nothing, and gave me half, and we both had abundance."

Twenty-Third Psalm

The Lord is my Banker; I shall not fail.
He maketh me to lie down in gold mines;
He giveth me the combination of His tills.
He restoreth my credit;
He showeth me how to avoid law suits for his name sake.

Yea, though I walk in the very shadow of debt,
I will fear no evil, for thou art with me;
thy silver and thy gold, they rescue me.

Thou preparest a way for me
in the presence of the collectors;
Thou fillest my barrels with oil;
My measure runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life
and I will do business
in the name of the Lord.

To fully appreciate the above, you need to read "The Blessing of Bold Giving" by Don Gossett.

Six-year-old Angie and her four-year-old brother Joel were sitting together in church. Joel giggled, sang, and talked out loud. Finally, his big sister had had enough. "You're not supposed to talk out loud in church." "Why? Who's going to stop me?" Joel asked. Angie pointed to the back of the church and said, "See those two men standing by the door? They're hushers."

Would your mother have given you a bitter dose merely for the sake of causing your suffering?

If your duty is hard, owing either to its difficulty or the distaste you feel towards it, lift your heart to God and say, "Lord, help me,". . . then go on with it, even though you seem to do it imperfectly.

Should one of those moments of vague misgivings, that leave the soul as it were in utter darkness, come to overwhelm you, call upon God, as a child in terror cries out to its mother.

To be continued.
