TOP OF THE MANTLE

Hello from Barbara's Entourage
Spring is finally here! We are still having chilly nights and days at times, but it's SPRING! The daffodils are all over the place, the fruit trees are beginning to bloom out, which makes for a wonderful sight. This is the time of year I wish I had different kind of trees in my yard, instead of the pines and oaks. I'd love a hill of dogwood or pear trees!
God made the world so beautiful. We came along and messed it up! I can hear you saying, "not me". Well, maybe not US personally, but we (the litter people) have littered the highways with bottles, cans, and papers. I ride through my old hometown, and find a junkyard on the main street leading into town. Makes me hate to tell anyone where I used to live (my family still lives there). It's outrageous for the town to allow such an 'eyesore' where it's seen passing through.
Our lives sometimes get a little cluttered with 'mess'. If we don't 'clean it up' regularly, it will get like the junkyard 'eyesore'. It will get larger and larger, and be such a burden on us. Stress takes over, then worry and depression. God wants us to clean up our act, not just on the outside, but from the inside out. When we get our heart right, then the rest will follow.
Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Hebrews 3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

WEEKLY RECIPES From Around The Web

LEMON BARS
Combine 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup butter, 1/4 cup confectioners sugar. Mix well and pat down into a greased 8 x 8 pan or glass baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
While baking, get ready to put on top: 1 cup sugar, 2 eggs beaten well, 2 T. flour, 2 T. lemon juice (optional for best flavor: use fresh lemons), 1/4 t. vanilla.
Pour this over the first layer and bake 25-30 minutes more. When cool, add a glaze of powdered sugar, a little hot water and a pinch of salt. Add chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans) over top of the glaze before the glaze sets. Cut into small bars or squares when glaze is firm--and ENJOY!
NOTE: Double the recipe, using a 9 x 13 pan, for a larger crowd.

TOOLS FOR SALE
It was advertised that the devil was going to put his tools up for
sale. On the date of the sale, the tools were placed for public
inspection; each tool being marked with its sale price. They were a
treacherous lot of implements...Hatred, Envy, Jealousy, Deceit, Lying,
Pride, and so on.
Laid apart from the rest was a harmless looking tool, well worn and
priced very high.
"What is the name of this tool?" asked one of the purchasers, pointing
to it.>
That is Discouragement", replied the devil.
"Why have you priced it so high?"
"Because it is more useful to me than the others. I can pry open and
get inside a man's heart with that when I cannot get near him with my
other tools. Once I get inside, I can make him do what I choose. It is
badly worn because I use it on almost everyone, since very few people
know that it belongs to me."
My friend, don't let Satan discourage you in anyway. You are God's
child and have the victory already won. All you have to do is keep
your faith on the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ. The
devil will not have a chance to discourage you, even with his best
tools.

*Trials and Tribulations*
Take a piece of wax, a piece of meat, some sand, some clay, and some wood
shavings, put them on the fire and see how they react.
Each of them is being acted upon by the same agent, yet...the wax melts, the
meat fries, the sand dries up, the clay hardens, the wood shavings blaze.
Just so, under identical influence of circumstances and environment one man
is made better, and he becomes stronger, and another becomes weaker, while
another withers away.
This explains why one hears the Word of God and is made better. Still
another hears the same thing and is made angry. Not so much what is done to
us, but what we do, determines our destiny. Take heed how you hear and act.

"GOLD DUST" ON THE MANTLE
|
Submission-Cont'd.
If you have sinned, oh! even then be not afraid of the merciful God, but with eyes full of tears, say to Him, "Pardon me". . . and add softly, "chastise me soon, O God!"
Yes, yes, dear one, be always at peace, going on quietly with your daily duties. . . more than that, be always joyous.
And why not?
To be continued.
