Hello from Barbara's Entourage

Mothers Can Only Do So Much!

Mother? Oh, Mother? How many times have you heard those words? Often times they are reeking with excitement, or perhaps fear or anguish! I can remember rushing to the aid of my children, when I heard those words. Often, it was a hurt toe or finger or other part of the body, and I had to give a kiss to the boo-boo, assuring them it would be okay. Sometimes, it was sibling rivalry! Having had a boy and girl almost three years apart, there were many times I had to be a go-between in the squabbles that only little children can find to be in! Often, it's just the 'I AM' syndrome - I AM going to get my way!

Mothers can only do so much! We can help a child grow up to be an efficient adult. We can get them over their fears to great accomplishments. We can teach them right from wrong. We can teach them to love others. But, the one thing we can't do is give them saving Grace. We can bring them to the threshold of God's Kingdom, and there, we have to leave them in the hands of God. Mothers PRAY, believe, me and we pray much! We pray for protection over our children and our grandchildren. We pray for favor over the homes of our children. But, we can't pray them into the Kingdom of God.

That's where the Holy Spirit comes in to help Mom. We Mothers pray, God convicts and woos, and they react to His calling. Every Mother wants to see their children saved, and working for the Kingdom of God. Not every Mother has that privilege of seeing all her children in the service of the Lord. But, Mothers, HOLD ON! Don't let doubt enter your mind; God is faithful and He will hear your prayers and bring your children in!

Acts 11:14 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.

Broccoli Quiche With Mashed Potato Crust

2 large potatoes, peeled
2 cups chopped fresh broccoli
1/4 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 onion, chopped
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
3 eggs
1 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

2 Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add potatoes and cook until tender but still firm, about 15 minutes; drain. Meanwhile, place broccoli in a steamer over 1 inch of boiling water, and cover. Cook until tender but still firm, about 2 to 6 minutes. Drain and set aside.

3 Mash the potatoes with milk and salt. Brush a deep 9 inch pie dish with olive oil and press the potatoes in. Brush with remaining olive oil. Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes or until lightly browned.

4 Arrange onions, broccoli and cheese in the potato crust. Whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper and nutmeg. Pour over broccoli and cheese. 5 Bake in preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes, until slightly puffed and cooked throughout. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Joy, Humor, and Faith on the net!

I know He is the beginning, so why do I worry about the end.

I know He is the creator, so why do I wonder who will destroy.

I know He has forgiven me, so why can't I forgive myself.

I know He is a healer, so why do I speak of sickness.

I know He can do all things, so why do I say I can't.

I know He will protect me, so why do I fear.

I know He will supply all my needs, so why can't I wait.

I know He is my strength and my salvation, so why do I feel weak.

I know that everything and everyone has a season, so why when someone's season is over do I weep instead of rejoice.

I know He is the right way, so why do I go the wrong way.

I know He is the light, so why do I choose to walk in darkness.

I know that whatever I ask of GOD, GOD will give me, so why am I scared to ask.

I know tomorrow is not promised, so why do I put off for tomorrow what I can do today.

I know that the truth shall make me free, so why do I continue to lie.

I know He gives us revelation knowledge and understanding, so why do I lean on my own understanding.

I know I should live in the spirit as well as walk in the spirit, so why do I choose to live in the spirit but walk in the flesh.

I know that when praises go up blessings come down, so why do I refuse to praise Him.

I know I am saved, so why do I refuse the word He has given me.

I know He has a plan for me, so why am I rushing it because I am eager to do His will, when it is His time not my time.

A word or two from ......

TownHall.com Columnist
Oliver North

Although e-mailing a Mother's Day card to the woman who brought you into this world, and cared and sacrificed for you sounds impersonal, that is the way many kids will express their affection for Mom in this day and age of Al Gore's Internet. I just hope they don't accept the offer to do so through the website of the organization that has done more to prevent motherhood than perhaps any other -- Planned Parenthood.

"Lean on Me, for I am Meek and Lowly of Heart"

Meek Under All Circumstances

Events are messengers of either Divine goodness or justice.

Each has a mission to fulfil; and as it comes from God, why not let it be accomplished in peace?

Painful, heart-rending, though they may be, they are still the Will of God. Watch them as they come, with a little trembling, perhaps even terror, but never let them destroy in the least degree my faith and resignation.

To be meek under these circumstances, does not mean awaiting them with a stoic firmness which proceeds from pride, or hardening one's self against them to the point of repressing all trembling. No! God allows us sometimes to anticipate, postpone, or even when possible flee them; at any rate, we may try to soothe and soften them a little.

To be continued.
