TOP OF THE MANTLE
|
Hello from Barbara's Entourage
There is always excitement when our friends call and want us to come up or perhaps go out to eat with them. We all enjoy each others company. We've been friends for years, and the friendship grows year to year. We never tire of one another and we never run out of things to talk about. Tonight, we had a chance to fellowship over dinner and then enjoy a few hours at their home. As usual, we had a great time, and the time flew by.
Do you need a friend? There is someone who will be with you when all other friends are gone. He will be closer to you than a brother. Jesus wants us to do whatever He commands, and He will be our friend. Unlike our mortal friends, He will never leave nor forsake us, if we trust in and love Him.
Proverbs 18:24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
John 15:14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

'THIS AND THAT' ...
Joy, Humor, and Faith on the net!

The Sunday School teacher was carefully explaining the story of
Elijah the Prophet and the false prophets of Baal.
She explained, "Elijah built the altar, put wood upon it, cut the
steer in pieces and laid it upon the altar...
And then Elijah commanded the people of God to fill four barrels of
water and pour it over the altar. He had them do this four times."
The children listened attentatively.
"Now, said the teacher, "can anyone in the class tell me why the Lord
would have Elijah pour water over the steer on the altar?"
A little girl in the back of the room raised her hand and waved it
frantically, expressing her great urgency. "To make the gravy!" came
her enthusiastic reply.

SNIPPET FROM THE MANTLE
A word or two from ......
Christianity Today
By Ted Olsen 5-30-02
Weblog: City Seizes Church Land to Build a Costco
It sounds like a joke, or some contrived sermon illustration about Christianity versus consumerism. But the town of Cyprus, California, really did vote unanimously to seize 18 acres from megachurch Cottonwood Christian Center so the city could bring in a Costco discount store.

"GOLD DUST" ON THE MANTLE
|
"Lean on Me, for I am Meek and Lowly of Heart"
Meek Toward Others
Yielding, submitting, retiring, giving up, this should be our conduct towards the members of our family, and those we call our friends.
The more facility you give them for doing what they think right, the more you enter into the feelings they have of their own importance, leaving them a free course of action, so much the more will you be likely to be useful to them, and retain your own peace of mind.
It is astonishing how those we never press open their hearts to us!
Do not try to examine too minutely the actions of others, or the motives that actuate them: if they are wanting in tact, appear not to notice it, or, better still, try to think they have made a mistake.
To continue.

HIS ENCOURAGING WORD...
Jeremiah 7:23 But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.
