VETERANS DAY
Veterans Day was once known as Armistic Day, proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson in 1919, to remind the Americans of the tragedies of War.
In 1939, a law was passed to make it a federal holiday. Later, the name was changed by Congress in 1954, to honor all American veterans of all wars.
Veterans Day does honor every American man and woman that has served our country in any armed forces. It is celebrated on November 11, the end of World War I (1914-1918).
There are celebrations on Veterans day with speeches and parades. And, special services are always held in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Canada, Australia, and New Zealand all observe November 11 as Remebrance Day to observe all the people who have died in war.
